Railway Services (Pension) Rules, 2026 have been notified in Gazette Notification vide G.S.R. 23 (E) dated 12th January, 2026 and circulated to Railways vide Board's Letter No. D-43/9/2022-F(E)III dated 20.01.2026. It has now been found that a typographic error has occurred in Format-1 of the ibid rules. Therefore, sub-rule (2) of Rule 8 in Format-1 of these rules may be read as sub-rule (3) of Rule 8.

Since the introduction of the scheme of General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE) vide Board’s letter No. E(NG)I/92/PM2/16 dated 20.08.1993 for a period of one year, the currency of the same, is being extended from time to time, and the same was last extended upto 31.03.2026 vide this Ministry’s letter No. E(NG)I-2020/PM1/9 dated 04.03.2024.

Sub: Grant of benefit of one increment under Rule 13 of RS (RP) Rules, 2008 on promotion from Sr. Goods Guard to Sr. Passenger Guard - Further clarification.

Consequent upon implementation of recommendations of 6th CPC, instructions regarding fixation of pay under Rule 13 of RS(RP) Rules, 2008 in the situations of promotions in identical revised pay structure (viz. same Grade Pay and Pay Band) were issued vide Board's letter No. PC-VI/2011/IC/1 dated 12.09.2013 (RBE No. 95/2013). Subsequently, further clarification regarding methodology of pay fixation to be followed in various functional and non-functional situations in respect of running staff were issued vide Board's letter dated 22.05.2014 (RBE No. 54/2014).

Sub: Eligibility for taking membership of Professional Institutes/Societies and reimbursement of membership fee on pro-rata basis for officials in the last year of service.

Ref: Board's letter No. E(G) 2017 FE-1/2 dated 06.01.2018 (RBE No. 01/18).

The issue of whether officers and supervisors could avail of the reimbursement facility when taking membership at the fag end of their career was previously considered by the Board in 2018, and it was decided that no claim for reimbursement of membership whether for new or renewal shall be allowed if the claim pertains to the last year of the service of the official. Accordingly, instructions were issued vide Board's letter under reference.

Regarding - Railway Board Guidelines for 30% LDCE (CBT) for Promotion to Group ‘B’ Posts – Vacancy Cycle 2025-2026

Sub.: Promotions to Group ‘B’ posts on Indian Railways through Centralized Computer Based Objective Type examination (CBT) – Conduct of 30% LDCE for the vacancy cycle 01.01.2025 – 31.12.2026 (including anticipated vacancies upto 30.06.2027).

Ref.: Board’s letter of even no. dated 18.02.2026.

In continuation to Board’s above mentioned letter, it is further advised that the 30% LDCE CBT shall be conducted on 12.04.2026 and 19.04.2026, with 50% of the candidates from each Department appearing on each date. Therefore, all zones/PUs are advised to bifurcate the candidates to appear in the Examination on the said two dates and intimate their details to RRB/Ajmer within 15 days of the issue of this letter so that centers/logistics can be arranged accordingly.
