As per the existing practice being followed by Zonal Railways, Sr. DEE(G) is looking after the work pertaining to general power supply as well as electrical coaching in most of the divisions.
In addition to ensuring passenger comfort during their journey, the performance of electrical coaching has a significant impact on train operation, reliability, and safety. It is a fact that coaching assets are rapidly increasing; for instance, number of LHB rakes increased from 300 to 1300 in a span of 4 years i.e. (FY:2019-2020 to 2023-24); similarly, the number of power cars and pantry cars have also been added to the fleet. With the addition of Amrit Bharat Express in Push-Pull mode and induction of Vande Bharat trains the requirement of manpower with core competence will further increase. Therefore, dedicated officers for electrical maintenance of the coaching stocks are required in divisions, headquarters, and workshops. The data reveals that in number of workshops, divisions and zonal railway headquarters, electrical officers for coaching maintenance are not available.
Therefore, with a view to improve the overall efficiency of coaching maintenance, it is advised to post dedicated officers for electrical maintenance of coaching stock as per existing yardstick. The matter may be critically reviewed, and the proposal for creation of additional posts may be sent based on the latest yardstick of TL&AC, if there is a shortfall.
Matter may be treated as very urgent.
